Climb Mount toubkal : 3 days trekking from Marrakech.
At 4167m, Mount toubkal is the highest mountain in North africa. The hike to the summit is challenging, but it requires no mountaineering experience and the panoramic view from the summit makes the hard work worthwhile. With the start of the trek just a 1H30 drive from Marrakech, you can reach the summit and back within 2 days and still have time to explore Morocco’s most captivating city,Marrakech.
Transfer from Marrakech to the village of imlil we begin our atlas trekking. Heading along the Mizzane valley, we first pass the village of Aremd we then continue east and by crossing the flood plains our route takes us along mule tracks and up into the high rocky cliffs above the valley. crossing the river we eventually come to the pastoral shrine of Chamarouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims. From here the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zig-zagging its way up to the snowline and the toubkal Refuge.
Early in the morning we make our attempt on the summit of Jbel toubkal 4167m, the highest peak in noth africa. Our route takes us up the south crique, crossing the stream above the toubkal Refuge 3207m. the walking is relatively starightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts. The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhil. Wheb you reach the summit you will see that the vistas across the surrounding landscape are quite breathtaking. From here there are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakech plain to the high atlas in the north and as far south as the Anti atlas and sahara. We will retrace our steps when we return down the mountain and head back to the toubkal refuge where we will spend the night.
Today is potentialy a spare day for attempting Toubkal, but generally this isn’t required so after breakfast you leave the refuge and trek down into the Aremd Valley, via Sidi chamaharouch to reach Imlil, a transport will be waiting to take us back to Marrakech.
